Awards at Vanier

Vanier has several awards, in order to honour the students that have put in a lot of time and effort in being the best in specific categories. These awards are presented to the students during commencement at the end of every academic year. There are two different kinds of awards, special awards and subject awards.

Special Awards

Alex LeRoy Student Award

Awarded to a graduating student who has spent at least 3 semesters at Vanier, demonstrated caring and support of fellow students, shown consistent respect for others, attended regularly, been a strong participant in student activities, demonstrated active community involvement. This award is presented in memory of the late Alex C. LeRoy, beloved Principal of Vanier from 1997-1999.

 

Allen Krane Memorial Award

Awarded to a student who has demonstrated enthusiasm and a love of Geography studies.

 

Alumni Award

Awarded to a graduating student who has made significant contributions in at least 3 of the following: Student leadership; Arts; Community Contributions; Environment Involvement; Peer Tutoring; Strong Curricular Program Involvement; Athletic Involvement; Cultural Harmony.

 

Business and Operations Award

Awarded to a graduating student who has made significant contributions and has demonstrated commitment by assisting in the daily operational needs of our school office.

 

Chartwells Award

Awarded to a graduating student in good academic standing who is pursuing studies in science.

 

David Caplan, M.P.P., Inspirational Leadership Award

Honours a student who has gone above and beyond the call of duty in a particular situation or has made a significant contribution to fellow students during the school year or has been an inspiration or role model to others and deserves recognition for this effort.

 

Cadillac Fairview SPIRE Scholarship

Awarded to a graduating student who displayed outstanding academic improvement and a strong commitment to social responsibility and community involvement.

 

Georges Vanier Staff Scholarship

Awarded to a deserving graduating student who has demonstrated excellent cooperation with staff and students, significantly contributed to all classes, shown dedication and commitment to studies and made a valuable contribution to school life.

 

Governor General’s Academic Medal

Awarded to the graduating student with the highest average.

 

Jim McQueen Excellence Award

Awarded to a worthy student courtesy of Jim McQueen of the O.S.S.T.F.

 

Community Volunteer Award

Awarded to a student for exemplary community involvement over four years of secondary school.

 

Lorraine Monk Arts Award

Awarded to a student who demonstrated a gift for visual arts and is interested in pursuing a career in the arts.

 

Millennium Scholarship

Awarded to graduating students on the basis of their academic achievement, community service, leadership and interest in innovation.

 

Ontario Principal’s Council Award for Student Leadership

Awarded to a student for leadership, dedication and commitment to their school and Community.

 

Outstanding Male Award

Awarded to a student with outstanding academic achievement and excellence in school activities.

 

Outstanding Female Award

Awarded to a student with outstanding academic achievement and excellence in school activities.

 

Technology Award

Awarded to students who have demonstrated consistent academic excellence, commitment, cooperation and leadership.

 

Environmental Award

Presented to a graduating student who has participated actively and assumed a leadership role in the Green Gang.

 

Scholar of the Year - Mathematics & Sciences

Awarded to a student with the highest average in six senior-level credits, where two must be Mathematics, and two must be Sciences, one may be Computer Science.

 

School Life Award

Awarded to the students who have made a significant contribution in activities other than Physical Education.

 

Student Council President’s Award

Presented to the former Student Council President for contributions to the school.

 

Trustee Award

Awarded to a student who exemplifies citizenship and cooperation toward the well being and spirit of the school.

 

Subject Awards

Aerospace Award

Presented to a student with outstanding academic achievement and class leadership in the aerospace program.

 

Business Award

Recipient must earn a minimum of five business studies credits with an overall average of 85% and be pursuing a business studies education at a post-secondary institution.

 

Ceramics Award

For excellence in Grade 12 Ceramics

 

Comprehensive Visual Arts Award

For excellence in a grade 12 Visual Arts course.

 

Computer Graphics Award

For excellence in grade 12 Computer Graphics.

 

Co-operative Education Award

Recipients must be graduating students who demonstrated strong employability skills, and excellence in their work placement and classroom studies.

 

Drama Award

Presented to a student who demonstrated outstanding academic achievement, class leadership, and extra-curricular involvement.

 

Drama & Video Award

Presented to students with outstanding academic achievement, class leadership, and extra-curricular involvement.

 

English Award

Presented to the student with the highest mark in semester one or semester two.

 

English - Writers Craft

Presented to a student who demonstrated excellence in creative writing.

 

Future Architect

Presented by the Visual Arts and Technology Departments to the student who has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to the study of architecture.

 

Geography Award

Presented for outstanding effort & achievement in Geography studies, and for clearly articulating and understanding geographic issues and concepts.

 

Guidance `Turnaround’ Award

Presented to a student who has shown a change in attitude and direction and has successfully completed high school.

 

History Award

Presented to the student who has demonstrated the keenest interest in History, had consistent academic excellence, shown excellent analytical skills, and has a thorough knowledge of the subject.

 

Information and Broad-Based Technology Computer Studies Award

Recipient has completed a minimum of 3 computer courses, obtained the highest average, and demonstrated a high level of leadership.

 

Language Award

Presented to students who have demonstrated outstanding growth in the study of one or more foreign languages.

 

Mathematics Award

Presented to the student who has achieved the highest mark in 3 math courses.

 

Music Award

Presented to the student who has demonstrated outstanding performance skills; shown high academic achievement in music courses; demonstrated exceptional musicianship; and participated in extra-curricular musical activities.

 

Philosophy Award

Presented to the student who has made the greatest contribution to this course.

 

Photography Award

For excellence in grade 12 Photography.

 

Physical Education Award

Presented to the student who has made the greatest achievement in any combination of physical education courses; demonstrated the highest standard of knowledge and skill; and shown a positive attitude.

 

Program 2 Art Graduate Award

For excellence in grade 12 Program 2 Art.

 

Science Award

Presented to the students with the highest average in Physics, Chemistry and Biology.

 

Social Studies Award

Presented to student who have demonstrated the keenest interest in Social Studies; had consistent academic excellence; shown excellent analytical skills; and had a thorough knowledge of the subject.

 

Technological Design Award

Presented to a student with outstanding academic achievement and class leadership in technological design.

 

Visual Arts Award

Presented for achievements above and beyond the course expectations, exemplary work ethics, demonstrated knowledge of art theory and art history, and an established high level of technical skills.
