What is BSC @ Van

BSC is an acronym that stands for Business Specialist Certificate.

How can you get a BSC?

Any student who has successfully earned five credits in Business Studies is eligible for a Business Specialist Certificate @ Vanier.
In addition to that, any student who has successfully earned five credits in Business Studies and has achieved an average of 85% or higher is eligible for a Business Specialist Certificate with Honours.
Students are strongly encouraged to be part of the following ‘reach ahead’ experiences to develop and enhance their classroom learning:

Introduction to Information Technology in Business (BTT1O)

This course introduces students to information and communication technology in a business environment and builds a foundation of digital literacy skills necessary for success in a technologically driven society. (Prerequisite: none)

Introduction to Business (BBI2O)

This course introduces students to the world of business. Students will develop an understanding of the functions of business, including accounting, marketing, information technology, human resources, and production, and of the importance of ethics and social responsibility. (Prerequisite: none)

Entrepreneurship: The Venture (BDI3C)

This course focuses on ways in which entrepreneurs recognize opportunities, generate ideas, and organize resources to plan successful ventures. Students will create a venture plan for a school-based or student-run business. (Prerequisite: none)

Intro to Financial Accounting (BAF3M)

This course introduces students to the fundamental principles and procedures of accounting. Students will develop financial analysis and decision-making skills that will assist them in future studies and/or career opportunities in business. (Prerequisite: none)

Introduction to Marketing (BMI3C)

This course introduces the fundamental concepts of product marketing, which includes the marketing of goods, services, and events. Students will engage in marketing research, develop marketing strategies, and produce a marketing plan for a product of their choice. (Prerequisite: none)

Information & Communication Technology (ICT): The Digital Environment (BTA3O)

This course prepares students for the digital environment. Using a hands-on approach, students will further develop ICT skills through the use of industry-standard software and investigate e-business. Students will design and create an e-business website. Financial Accounting Principles (BAT4M)

This course introduces students to advanced accounting principles that will prepare them for postsecondary studies in business. Students will learn about financial statements for various forms of business ownership and how those statements are interpreted in making business decisions.
(Prerequisite: Financial Accounting Fundamentals, Gr. 11)

This course provides an overview of the importance of international business and trade in the global economy and explores the factors that influence success in international markets. (Prerequisite: none)

This course focuses on the development of leadership skills used in managing a successful business. Students will analyse the role of a leader in business with a focus on decision making, management of group dynamics, workplace stress and conflict, motivation of employees, and planning. Effective business communication skills, ethics, and social responsibility will be emphasized throughout the course. (Prerequisite: none)

Current Economic Issues (CIA4U)

This course explores the choices that individuals and societies make about the use of resources in a competitive global economy. Students will use economic concepts and models, as well as methods of economic inquiry, to analyse current economic issues and make informed economic choices based on their analysis. Entrepreneurship: Venture Planning in an Electronic Age & E-Commerce (BDV4C)

This course provides students with the opportunity to develop and apply entrepreneurial skills through the creation of a venture plan that capitalize on the potential of e-commerce. Students will research and identify an opportunity for a venture. They will then complete the components of a venture plan that includes a website. (Prerequisite: none)
