TDSB Code of Conduct for Online Computer Use
- Be on time for every class
- Be in your first period class by 8:55 A.M.
- If absent you will be absent:
- Call 416 395 3250 and inform the secretary in the Main Office.
- If the student is under 18 years old, present a note from your parent to the office secretary prior to attending the period one class. The note should include the dates of absence, reason for absence, and signature of a parent or guardian.
- Chronic attendance problems can lead to a loss of a credit, and may jeopardize your status at school.
Personal Communication Devices
- Pagers and cellular phones are not permitted to interfere with the learning of others. They must all be turned off and not visible during school hours.
Vanier’s Dress Code
The following expectations for student dress have been established to promote a safe and positive learning environment.
- Clothing must be appropriate for a learning environment, and must not draw attention away from the learning environment.
- ‘VIP Cards’ must be worn on school property, and be worn below the neck and above the waist.
- ITEMS NOT PERMITTED:
- in classrooms or the Library: coats &jackets.
- inside the school building: non-religious head apparel, sunglasses, bandanas, and gloves. Pagers/cell phones must not be visible or used inside the building.
- on school property: spiked, chained, or aggressive accessories.
- Shirts, blouses, dresses, and skirts must completely cover the abdomen and back. Undergarments must not be exposed. Shorts, dresses, and skirts must be beyond fingertip length. Tube-tops, low-cut tops, and ultra-sheer or excessively tight clothing are not permitted.
- Footwear must be safe and appropriate. Non-marking running shoes are required in the gym.
- Clothing, body art, and accessories (e.g. backpacks, patches, jewelry, notebooks) must not display/promote:
- racial/ethnic slurs, gang symbols, or inappropriate or sexual images/messages.
- alcohol, tobacco, drugs, or weapons.
- If not dressed appropriately, students will:
- correct the violation.
- have the offensive item confiscated
- face other consequences listed on the Code of Behaviour.

- remember what has been taught in class.
- develop self-discipline and good work habits.
- work on your own and learn to do research.
- let your parents know what you are learning in school.
- complete unfinished work.
Ask for help if you need it, use Vanier’s special resources…
- Crime Stoppers / ESP has been established in order to allow students to participate in ensuring a safe school environment.
- Guidance counselors are available for help with school or personal problems.
- Conflict Resolutions sessions can be provided by the guidance counselors.
- Health services are available. Ask a guidance counselor.
- The Information and Resource Centre is a well equipped area for quiet, individual study. Internet access is available.
- The Literacy Lab is a computer-managed learning system available to students who will benefit from increased reading practice. Students will be invited by their teachers for this special opportunity.
- Students must wear their VIP cards during the examination.
- Students who arrive late for an exam will be permitted to write, but will not be given extra time.
- No talking during the exam. No unauthorized electronic devices.
- Students should bring required equipment (e.g. pencil, pen, ruler, calculator, textbooks for collection, etc).
- When student leave the examination room, they are to exit the school quietly, as other students will still be writing.
- Students should only come to school during the exams if they have a scheduled exam or legitimate school business. Students are not to got to their lockers while exams are in progress.
- Only the front doors of the school will be open for students to enter the school.
If you miss an examination
- Present a doctor’s note supporting your absence to the Main Office. Your note must say that the student was to ill to attend the exam. The note must be signed by a medical doctor registered with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. This note must brought to school as soon as the student has recovered from their illness (i.e.: The day following the last day listed on the Doctor’s Note).
- The reason for missing an exam must be acceptable to the administration.
- A substitute exam may be considered if the student was absent due to the following reasons: illness, court appearance, immigration hearing or bereavement.
- Otherwise, a mark of zero will be assigned.
- Students are expected to reply in a positive manner to staff direction or requests for information. Staff includes all employees. Students must give their full name or show their student VIP card to any staff member who requests it. Failure to do so may result in suspension.
- In the interest of the school safety, individuals who do not belong to Vanier are discouraged from visiting the school. Unidentified strangers will be asked to leave the school premises. School administrators could lay trespassing charges or contact police if necessary.
- MacDonald Hall Cafetorium is equipped to provide hot meals during the lunch hours. It is also equipped with the vending machines containing soft drinks and bottled water. Students are allowed to use Cafetorium for the study purposes during their spares.
- We want to keep Vanier clean and pleasant, therefore, all food and drink must be consumed in the cafetorium.
- Thank you for being responsible for keeping the school clean by recycling in the appropriate bins.
- All parking spaces in the school parking lot are reserved.
- Students must obtain permits for parking through the main office.
- Students not participating in an activity supervised by a member of the staff, must leave the building by 4:00 PM. However, we have a lot of clubs at Vanier that often meet after school
