Student Activity Council at Vanier
What is the SAC
The Student Activity Council, generally known as SAC is the body of students representing the school’s best interests. SAC is involved in planning social and fun activities to make school a different place to be. Additionally, SAC is also responsible for delivering the students’ voices, improving the school in general and making sure that every student at Vanier enjoys it. SAC consists of primarily two bodies, the Executive Council and the General Council.
What does the SAC do?
Occasionally, SAC would have special events such as dances+parties, BBQ’s, spirit days, etc. In such cases, both the Executive Council and General Council work together as one team to make these events successful. Every SAC member can also voice their own opinions about issues in the school freely, and every opinion will be discussed to make sure that that opinion becomes a reality.
How can I join?
In order to become a executive member, you’ll have to go through an election process. However, if you just want to participate in school activities and contribute your great ideas, you can simply drop-in during a SAC meeting. Check the events calendar for more details.
How is the SAC structured
The Executive Council consists of president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, publicity director, social events co-ordinator, sports director and special events co-ordinator. Together, they meet weekly and form decisions based on what the school needs and wants, and what we want to give to the school. Advice from the general council also plays an important role in making these decisions, and these decisions made in these meetings are the fundamental activities that SAC provides. The General Council consists of a 21 student representatives from the whole school.
The members of the General Council meets weekly with the some executives (such as the president or vice president) to discuss matters that needs to be addressed. In addition, the meetings are run by the head of general council, as well as a secretary to keep record of these meetings. Although they are not officially executives, they work very closely with the executives and make sure that issues are addressed to make the school a working environment that everyone wants to be in.
