Where do I start?
Pick up a list of scholarships offered by various sources from the Guidance Department.
Make a list of the sources you might be able to use to obtain a scholarship or bursary.
Check Guidance Department for updated scholarship information.
Start getting letters of recommendation. Allow adequate time and don’t forget to send a thank you note!
What types of Organization provide scholarships?
- Clubs, i.e. Rostary, Kiwanas
- Provincial, National or International Athletic Organizations.
- Parents’ employers.
- Ethnic of Religious Affiliations.
- Veteran’s Affiliations.
- Your employers, e.g. McDonalds, TD Canada Trust, Cadillac Fairview(SPIRE).
- Check the internet for hundreds of scholarships.
How can I prepare?
From your freshman year, list any information that may qualify you for an award, bursary of scholarship. All these things count, so if you don’t have any one activity or accomplishment on your list, consider taking part in that activity.
- Awards: Any award received for academic or non-academic involvement.
- Co-Op or part time jobs: What were your responsibilities?
- Projects: Did you work on any large projects that you are proud of?
- Academic achievement: Are you an honours student?
- International Exchange: Did you travel outside Canada to study, volunteer, etc?
- School Clubs, Teams, or Student Government: What was your involvement?

You might want to bookmark these websites, and check them often. Every year, thousands of dollars are given in scholarships to deserving students. Also, keeping a calendar with all the deadlines will help you will prevent any late submissions and help you stay organized.

The Loran Award is one of the most prestigious awards in Canada, comprising of approximately $20,000 dollars. It is open to all students who demonstrate leadership and commitment to positive school life.
